What Is the Texas Mission of Mercy?
The Texas Mission of Mercy (TMOM) is a statewide initiative operated by the Texas Dental Association Smiles Foundation. It functions as a mobile dental clinic program designed to deliver essential oral healthcare services to individuals who face financial barriers or lack access to regular dental care.
Traveling to various cities across Texas, TMOM sets up temporary clinics staffed by volunteer dental professionals and community members. These events typically take place over two days and have the capacity to treat up to 700 patients. The care provided focuses on relieving pain, preventing infection, and restoring smiles through procedures such as:
- Tooth extractions
- Dental fillings
- Professional cleanings
- Select restorative services, like repairing partial dentures or replacing missing front teeth
By bringing care directly to underserved communities, TMOM helps bridge the gap in dental access and ensures that more Texans can receive timely, compassionate treatment — at no cost to them.
